As we have seen over the last couple of weeks, for sheer weight of numbers, the chart belongs to this year’s annual assortment, occupying places 4 through to 10. However, for sheer volume of sales, Jeff Kinney’s latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid outing, Cabin Fever, takes pole position. Christopher Paolini’s concluding instalment of the Inheritance series, Inheritance, slips down to 2, while everything is still going swimmingly for David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny at 3.

A bestseller chart is always a competitive place, but perhaps the presence of Nick Hunter’s All About the Olympics serves to ramp-up that sporting spirit. In a jamboree of jokes, The Scouting Joke Book competes for laughs with Justin Fletcher and Tim Vine, who also have joke books in the chart, while we shall soon see if Andy Blackford’s The Hungry Little Monkey and Tim Collins’ Adventures of a Wimpy Werewolf are any match for How to be a Good Cat by Gail Page, not to mention Horrid Henry's Dinosaurs by Francesca Simon. Last but not least, vying for attention in the board books section are Babies and Faces, both in Usborne’s Baby's Very First Black and White Book series.
